From drf5n@mug.sys.virginia.edu Mon Aug 19 20:34:19 2002 Date: Mon, 19 Aug 2002 18:06:49 -0400 (EDT) From: David Forrest To: vandenbremt_steven@hotmail.com Subject: TBG Meeting at Arcturus Hail Andromeda's Secret, This is dave of the tin bucket, here at Arcturus, and intending to do the Medical Adventure. If you are intending to do it, I would happily redirect my crew to some much needed maintenance and training. I notice that you are a follower of the Wise one, who I've opposed a bit lately. I understand that The Prophet of the Wise One has announced that his Chosen "should feel free to extract retribution from those ships that denounce or schism." From my conversations with Graham, I need to arrange reparations directly to him to become forgiven, and that damage that doesn't pay him back won't necessarily absolve me. I'd like to explain my reasons for may part in the current brouhaha. At first, I was a bit offended that Graham left an prophet-bot in place to manage the office of the Prophet of the Wise One, when it became clear that it was an inept bot, I denouced a couple times to uncurse a new artifact I got with both sensors and cloaks cursed. I used my own favor to uncurse the sensors, but needed to borrow a bit for uncursing the cloaks. A 5000 favor prophet burns 30 points/turn to no purpose, and it was clear the prophet-bot wasn't using that favor wisely. After Graham returned and announced that he lied, there was no bot, and he excommunicated AW to make the lie seem real, I wrote him about the favor told him about some disconetented people who contacted me, and he explained himself, and offered another denoucnce for uncursing the cloaks. When he announced that the Smuggler's Net was behind the campaign, and that he had a list, and that they were to be shot on sight, I denounced him, and I wrote him again to say that we smugglers, although we discussed it, were not behind it, were surprised that AW chose Majestik Moose, and there must be some others behind the movement, he wrote me back to say that he was using a conveinient lie: I have never victimised newbies for being misled. The guilty *are* wider spread, but it's useful to let them believe I am completely focused on SN. At this, and the threat of exposure and attack, I denounced again. Graham, who disparaged the dirty tricks of a spy in his chosen, used a spy himself to get a list of SN members, made several threats, which he thought politically expedient, and hasn't really retracted any. I do not know what to expect of him. If some prophet wrongly accused SIR of conspiring against him and said SIR members would be shot on sight, would you or many SIR members denounce out of protest? Supposing you did denounce, and the next turn, the prophet said, "we won't attack SIR, we will just attack people who denounced me", what would you do next? Ask for forgiveness? Be a little offended? Graham of the Spectral Duck has declared hostility towards me, writing me that he wants recompensation himself: My position is simple - I regard all schismers and denouncers as legitimate targets, unless the captains involved have made approach to me directly to attempt reconciliation. Unauthorised denounce/schism is a hostile act, and either compensation (to me) or retribution will be the result. This will hold true whether the campaign is successful or not. I doubt that Graham would forgive me if we were to combat and my ship were badly damaged. I have no quarrel with SIR, Andromeda's Secret, Chosen or Followers of the Wise one. Simply with Graham, who has insulted my alliance, threatened me, spied on me, exposed my friends, and demands that /I/ attempt reconciliation to his satisfaction. I think he and his prophet-bot are rude, and maybe you "should feel free to extract retribution from those ships that denounce or schism" but there is no promise of support in Graham's directive(?). Maybe he would be satisfied if we both blew ourselves to bits, but I doubt it. What are your intentions?
